The board
Virtual Advanced is VBBS's successor: the user record, the name index, the interview and the masked fields carry over unchanged, and so does the VBBS chapter above, except for what follows.
What ATA set up. The package's own installer, run on ATA's machine; the database world built by a first call (Virtual Advanced builds it only over the wire) and shipped; the operator registered over the wire, raised to level 255 with a full day of minutes; and BBS.EXE, the package's own wrapper, with its /AC front-end switch.
The DOS page. "Virtual Advanced, local console" is channel 0. The local screen shows raw escape codes, because the boot floppy carries no ANSI driver; over the wire your callers see the colour normally. "VCONFIG" is the configuration.
Making it your own. Your board lives in D:\VADV. VCONFIG's Main Configuration holds the board name, the SysOp name, the New User Password (item 4) and the System Password (item 5); both passwords are kept out of callers' machines and checked on the host, as on VBBS.
Files. Virtual Advanced ships with Secure Uploads on: every upload is held in \VADV\SYSOP until you move it into a file area. That is the package's switch (VCONFIG, Main Configuration); turn it off if you want uploads to land in the file area directly. Its VXY driver is paced like VBBS's.
A level-255 operator lands on a different menu from a member: an action-command list where a member gets the numbered main menu.
Legend of the Red Dragon on Virtual Advanced 2.10
The steps every board shares (getting LORD, LORDCFG, the wrapper batch) are in the door guide. This is what is particular to this board.
The same as VBBS, with the VADV folders:
- Drop file: DOOR.SYS in
D:\VADV\TEMP\N1\andD:\VADV\TEMP\N2\. LORDCFG: (9) DOORSYS, pathsd:\vadv\temp\n1\andd:\vadv\temp\n2\. - Batch:
D:\VADV\DOORS\LORD.BAT, ending inCD \VADV. - The door list: VCONFIG, A, Doors Configuration, exactly as for VBBS: Command Line
DOORS\LORD.BAT %1, Security Level 1, Single User No. - How callers get there: O at the main menu, then 1.
